Vacuum packaging can reduce the product's contact with oxygen and contribute to a longer shelf life when the right material and process are selected. Different barrier levels, thicknesses and constructions provide options for meat, fish, cheese, ready meals and other products.
Selection considers product dimensions, weight, shape, sharp edges, moisture content and shelf-life requirements, as well as machine type and sealing method. PA/PE is a common option. EVOH can provide a higher barrier, while PET/PE and PET/PP may suit requirements for stiffness, transparency or temperature resistance. Shrink bags mould around the product during heat treatment.
